Some other facts include, the Hanseatic League played an important role from 1356 to around 1669. After 1669 it lost its importance and faded away. It was comprised of 190 cities in 16 countries primarily in the North and Baltic sea. In 1980 the league restarted under the name New Hanseatic League. The new league set the task of keeping the spirit alive of the League as a social and cultural alliance.
