The Hanseatic League in Finland

The Hanseatic League was initially started in the mid-twelfth century by loose business communities of German merchants who through their pursuit to increase their scope of trade centers created an international trade in the surrounding region (McKenna, 2014). The Dominicans are believed to have followed the German merchant during their trade in the Baltic Sea. It is also believed that they possibly reached in Finland in 1249 before the German merchants. This marked the start of the relationship between Finland and the Hanse.
