New Hanseatic League

Hello again, to be honest it is quite difficult to find news about the Hanseatic League. Since for the most part it hasn't been around since the 14 hundreds, and the New Hanseatic League hasn't really done all that much. Anyways, today I will discuss something that I found interesting on the Wikipedia page. The more recent return of the League was in 1980 which we have mentioned before. But in 1980 former Hanseatic members established a "New Hanse"(meaning New Guild) in Zwolle, a city in northeastern Netherlands. The new guild is open to any former members of the League and any cities that once hosted a Hanseatic "kontor"(meaning trading post). A fair amount of members, 12 to be exact came from Russia. The most notable being Novgorod, which was a major partner to the original League in the middle ages. It is truly interesting to see how things ran in the late middle ages. It made sense to have city trading because back then things weren't nearly has refined and organized as it is now. With territories constantly changing with the rise and fall of empires it was much simpler for people to keep track of their own cities needs rather than that of an entire country.

Since the opening of the New Hanse there has been a change in where the headquarters is. Currently, The headquarters of the New Hanse is in Lübeck, Germany. As Leuart has stated in previous blog posts. It is also where the current President of the league resides. Which makes sense because Germany is a much more central location than the Netherlands. It also might be confusing as to what the League does, but the current Hanseatic League fosters and develops business links, tourism and cultural exchange.

Special Event ( Hanseatic DAY!)

Today we will be focusing on something pretty interesting about the Hanseatic League. Every year from June 21 until the 24th a city is chosen from the Hanseatic league to host and celebrate Hanseatic Day. On June 21st - 24th, the city of Rostock will be hosting the jubilee (traditional) festival called Hanseatic Day. This jubilee as they call it in the The Hanseatic Day 2018 article will actually be the 800th anniversary of this festival. I find it interesting that this tradition goes back to the medieval ages, since 1358 to be exact. This event is set up to to bring visitors, businesses and other organisations together and each year a different city of the Hanseatic League hosts the event. The event will have a back-in-time effect on you, because of the old fashioned buildings around, the traditional clothing, and the traditional trading ships. That's right traditional trading SHIPS! That will be entering the dock to sell goods just like the good old'n day...

The Hanseatic League 2.0

Today we will be talking about the effect that Brexit has on the Hanseatic League. Many of the medium to smaller countries are starting to realize that they need to make their voices heard in response to the recent departure. There are arguments for the UK both leaving and staying, but when involved in the EU the UK was more liberal in their approach, and pushed for more trade between countries, and those trying to liberalize trade in the EU will find it harder without them. Thus the Hanseatic League and others might have a more difficult time trading. While the departure of the UK will hurt the EU, due to the leader role that the country held. The remaining EU countries do have similar economic goals, including dynamic competition on a single market, and the need for national budgetary responsibility within the EU. Modern Day:Lübeck

Now a days, the modern Lübeck is a historical town surrounded by museums and many places to visit or sight see. These museums hold the spirit and heart of the Hanseatic league till this day, by having medieval relics, art, and culture well within them. With its five mighty churches and old style architecture the city brings a nostalgic feeling to all the new comers and the city is also a part of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organizations (UNESCO). The UNESCO consists of a world heritage list that contribute to peace and security in the world, as well as protecting the area. Finally, the old city is surrounded by water on all sides where people can ride the classical ships along the shore line to view all of the cities beauty and wonders. The land will forever be protected by the UNESCO preserving its historical art, culture, and its beautiful landscape and architecture.
